Who We Are
WHO WE ARE
Ndinokuda was created in January 2021, after a Kwanzaa family tradition received donations. During Kwanzaa, for Ujima, Collective Work and Responsibility, the Miller/Small family would create Care Totes and hand them out to homeless people on the streets. When donations were received, they realized their impact could be so much greater.
Ndinokuda is a nonprofit organization established to provide resources to help reduce the number of people suffering from or facing homelessness.
Chicago-based Ndinokuda will provide necessities and information about organizations who specialize in finding housing and aiding the homeless; however, Ndinokuda performs the groundwork of reaching those in need where they are. For those already homeless, Ndinokuda will provide contact information for shelters and other necessities, while addressing any immediate needs to the best of our abilities.
For those facing homelessness, Ndinokuda will serve as a liaison for various programs and local resources that can provide short-term housing needs, in order to prevent displacement.
Ndinokuda means “I love you” in Shona, a language of Zimbabwe. Everyone needs care and compassion, and serving those who are homeless with food and basic necessities is essential.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to provide homeless people with necessities and relevant information about organizations and programs that will help them with shelter, education, food, and other necessities, while treating everyone with humanity and care. We plan to quickly reach those who are without shelter, to provide immediate food and comfort, as well as possible options for future shelter and security.
VISION STATEMENT
Our vision at Ndinokuda is to help reduce the number of people suffering from or facing homelessness by annually impacting at least 300 people with Care Totes, and increasing our connections by 3% every 2 years, assisting them on their path to independence.
